Introduction

Welcome to Gazi University Chemistry Department

Our Department was established in 1982. The undergraduate program offered in the Department of Chemistry is a vocational program that follows the latest developments in the field and is prepared to educate competent students in contemporary research and development studies. Our department provides 4-year undergraduate education.

Starting from the first year of the 2012-2013 academic year, ENGLISH SUPPORTED TURKISH EDUCATION model has been implemented. In this model, English lessons equivalent to the preparatory class (approximately 480 hours) are distributed over four years. In addition, in the fourth year, one of the modules of Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry is graduated with a partial specialization in that branch.

There are 5 departments in the Chemistry Department: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. There are 7 student laboratories in the Chemistry Department: General Chemistry Laboratory, Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, Instrumental Analysis Laboratory, Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Physical Chemistry Laboratory, Biochemistry Laboratory and Organic Chemistry Laboratory. There are 18 research laboratories in our department where graduate and doctoral studies are carried out. These are, Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (4 pieces), Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory (2 pieces), Physical Chemistry Laboratory (6 pieces), Biochemistry Laboratory (2 pieces), Organic Chemistry Laboratory (3 pieces) and Theoretical Chemistry Research Laboratory (1 piece).

Undergraduate graduates who have completed the Department of Chemistry receive a diploma with the title of "CHEMIST". They can work as chemists in Chemical Industry, business, research & development (R&D) and quality control laboratories, pharmaceutical industry, R&D and quality control laboratories, as product manager in pharmaceutical marketing, in R&D companies, private and official laboratories, official and private clinical diagnostic laboratories, molecular biology laboratories and companies, chemical and device sales and marketing companies, textile industry, import and in export companies, the food industry;  in quality control, product development and marketing, polymer industry, coating and plastic factories.

In the Biology and Physics Departments of the Faculty of Science, and in the Chemical Engineering Departments of the Faculty of Engineering, minor and double major can be made.

In line with the education given in the Department of Chemistry;

1. With an adequate chemistry knowledge,
2. Having the knowledge and skills of designing experiments, using modern devices, evaluating and interpreting results in the sectors they work in,
3. Constantly renewing itself by following science and technology,
4. Able to produce professional solutions to problems related to chemistry,
5. Able to conduct research and development studies and as a result, develop new methods that will contribute to the development of original publications, patents and technology,
6. Chemists and high chemists are raised who are prone to teamwork and can express and communicate clearly.

Chemistry Department consists of 39 faculty members (31 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 2 Doctor Instructor), 13 research assistants and 4 lecturers. With its modern infrastructure suitable for the needs of the age, it accepts 60+2 students every year for normal education. Scientific studies published in many national and international journals by our faculty members; There are many papers presented at national and international congresses. The number of books written or translated by our faculty members is over 40. Some of our scientific research is supported by DPT, TUBİTAK and Gazi University. The graduate and doctorate programs are carried out by Gazi University, Institute of Science in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry.

The aim of the Department of Chemistry is to provide students with a high-quality education environment where they can develop their personal knowledge and skills while teaching innovative developments in chemistry and be noticed not only in the field of chemistry but in every field.

A large number of students have been sent abroad within the framework of the Erasmus student exchange program in our department.

The Department of Chemistry is one of the leading departments of our country and our university with a strong research infrastructure with modern research laboratories, modern instruments such as NMR, FT-IR, UV-GB, ICP, HPCL, GPC and atomic absorption.
